Finding Purpose and Compassion as a Private Duty Nurse
Published Jan. 31, 2024

After over 20 years in the healthcare field, Racheal joined the Aveanna team 3 years ago and found a career she loves. As an Aveanna private duty nurse, she is able to connect with her patient and provide life-changing care every day.

“I have worked in assisted living facilities for most of my nursing career, as well as 7 years in a hospital setting,” Racheal recalls. “I wanted to spend more time with my patients, and I thought one-on-one in-home patient care would be perfect!”

One-on-one care in the home turned out to be everything Racheal had hoped and more. “I love working with my Aveanna patient because she has taught me so much,” Nurse Racheal shares. “Not only about her, but about me too. She is so strong and conquered so much in her life. It makes me so grateful to be with her every day.”

With her Aveanna patient, every day is a new adventure for Racheal. “My patient means everything to me,” she says. “When you spend 40 plus hours with a hero every week, you can't imagine doing anything else. My patient smiles through her trials and tribulations. I'm so proud of how far she has come even in just the two and a half years I've been with her.”

When Racheal needed a change in her nursing career, she came to Aveanna and was amazed by what she found. “I've found flexibility with Aveanna, and I've found so much more,” Racheal says. “I've found purpose and more compassion than I ever knew I possessed. I cannot imagine any other career at this point.”
